The purpose of this research work was to determine the functionality of the application of the "GEV" didactic strategy developed to improve the learning level of western literature in fifth grade students of the institution Educational "Juan Valer Sandoval" of New Chimbote - 2015. The population was made up of 92 students from the 5th grade of secondary education, being the intention sample of 22 students who formed the experimental group and 22 students for the control group. The quantitative method of quasi experimental design and the intervention of two groups were used: experimental and control, intentionally selected considering intact groups. In the application of the didactic strategy "GEV" the following instruments were used: Pretest and Postest, written tests and guides of observation; The techniques: Conversatories, round tables, panels, case studies, research work, brainstorming, infographics, interviews, problematic, sequential and functional method. The following methods were also used: Descriptive, observational, bibliographic, experimental, synthetic and analytical - synthetic, in addition to the statistical and pedagogical technique. Consequently, the results obtained after the analysis and interpretation of the data were similar, since the averages obtained from the pre - tet of G.E and G.C. Were of 05. In the post-test 100% of the students of the G.E reached the level of signification, Very good (18 - 20) and good (15 - 17); Unlike G.C. That the majority 64% concentrated on the Bad level (06 - 10). Finally, these results demonstrate that the application of the didactic strategy "GEV" improves in a significant level the level of learning of the western universal literature, thus checking the hypothesis.
